LGBTQ Mountain Sunrise Elopement

Imagine this: you drive up from Dallas with the love of your life and your two dogs, stay in the most perfect AirBnB in Georgetown, wake up early the next morning (in time to see the Milky Way at the trailhead before the sun comes up) to hike your way through the forest, then say your vows to each other right as the sun crests the mountain ridge. Sound like a dream? Well, that’s what Bo (she/they) and Carson (he/him) did!

These two are genuinely some of the sweetest, funniest people I have ever met. They had me cracking up the whole morning. They met in high school and have basically been inseparable ever since. All Bo & Carson wanted for their elopement was to be alone with forests and mountains. Easy enough in Colorado! Since they were staying in an AirBnB in Georgetown, we set their ceremony site at a trail in Guanella Pass. The Mt. Bierstadt and Mt. Evans wilderness, in which the pass is located, is full of expansive, breathtaking beauty. It was just a matter of finding the perfect trail to do in the pitch dark (for real, we had headlamps and lanterns and were still tripping over tree roots) and the perfect view to watch the sunrise.

Bo & Carson changed into their wedding clothes once we’d gotten to their ceremony site. Getting ready together, while untraditional, is SUCH a special way to honor each other on your wedding day, especially if your love languages are quality time or acts of service. Bo brought their sister, Sarah, along to help with the dogs while they got married (if you didn’t know already, I consider elopements to be couples only, but this is one of the few instances in which another person can be extremely helpful!). Sarah gave a heartfelt speech (“if you ever give my sister a reason to scream to Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well: 10 Minute Version,”  I will kill you.”) and Bo & Carson said their vows. We all cried. Even the pups, though it may have been because they were tired of being tied up away from Mom & Dad.

We did a few family photos, a few couples photos in the morning sun (on 35mm film, what a dream!), and then back we went down the trail to grab a coffee in Georgetown. Love you two forever and ever.
