LGBTQ Sunrise Lake Elopement in Aspen
Featured on Dancing With Her
Lorin (they/them) and Rachel (she/her) do everything on a whim, and they do everything together. Engaged in Disney in 2023, they joked about eloping on Earth, Wind, and Fire day (September 21st), and then looked at each other. What if... they actually did it? The two of them live in Pennsylvania, but Rachel's best friend lives in Colorado, and suddenly the vision started coming together. Colorado in the fall, with no one around but a close friend. Despite their plans being so far from home, both of their families were in full support of them eloping, and even gifted them embroidered handkerchiefs to use on the day of.
The two of them purchased their dresses together from David's Bridal, and thanks to an alterations mishap, Lorin's dress was rescue-altered by her grandmother to add an extra level of sentiment to their day. They honored their love of Disney with a classic storybook to hold their rings, the embroidered kerchiefs, and nods to fairytales in their vows.
They eloped at a lake outside of Aspen, Colorado, at sunrise. After a short, dark hike in, they got dressed in the rocks and had their emotional ceremony as the sun crept over the peaks. Their close friend, Jennifer, officiated their ceremony, and then headed back to town to give them the morning alone. We spent a peaceful hour by the lake with a breakfast picnic, and then drove to a nearby waterfall to sign their marriage license and soak up the morning sun.
This wedding was captured on digital, 35mm, and super 8 film.
